Daily affirmations offer us an ability to decrease stress, have a more upbeat and positive outlook, recognize the good in life that can easily be overlooked, and facilitate an overall sense of wellbeing.

Affirmations are reinforcing statements that are typically short, easy to remember and very beneficial for one's mindset and outlook on life. This negative form of thinking trains your brain to focus on and amplify the perception of negative things. Here are three ways to quickly adapt your behavior to make affirmations seamlessly work in your life:

  1. Time specific. Create affirmations around time related things, such as every morning or evening, during a lunch break, when a particular feeling arises, or when some kind of situation occurs. This creates cues for your brain to trigger your specific affirmative statement to bring a sense of well-being.
  2. Repetition. Consciously repeating new behaviors will help form new neuro-pathways in the brain, which lead to newly formed habits. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect.
  3. Change its form. It's one thing to just read an affirmation off a digital screen, but changing its form can often help reinforce the affirmation in your life. For example, try writing them down, print them out on a piece of paper, carry them around with you, speak them aloud, and share them with others in your life.
