Fire Cider Recipe for Boosted Immunity

Maybe you have heard of Fire Cider before or make your own. If not, it is a traditional remedy used in herbalism, most typically during the cooler seasons to help support the immune system. One way to keep yourself on the defense from all the nasties out there is practicing preventative actions to keep your immune system strengthened. Fire Cider is a great remedy to do just that! Here is a simple version of this recipe, yet keep in mind you can always swap out ingredients with other ingredients such as Thyme, Rosemary, Habanero Peppers, Red Onion, etc.

INGREDIENTS

  • Mason Jar (quart sized - 32oz.)
  • Wax Paper
  • 1 cup Horseradish Root
  • 1/4 cup Ginger Root
  • 1/4 cup Turmeric Root
  • 3 Tbs. Black Peppercorns
  • 1 Jalapeño
  • 1/2 cup Onion
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 Lime
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (organic, raw, & unfiltered "with the mother")

PREPARATION

Prepare all ingredients by chopping and filling up your Mason Jar. You may wish to wear gloves when chopping the jalapeño due to it's spicy properties, and the turmeric due to it's dying effects to the skin.

Once you have your ingredients placed in your jar, pour over the apple cider vinegar. Wax paper is used to line the metal lid. The wax paper should be covered over the contents inside of the jar, then you place the lid on top of the wax paper and screw on the rim of the lid. The reason wax paper is used is because vinegar is very acidic and may corrode the metal on the cap. 

After a day or two you may notice a little less vinegar. If you notice less vinegar in the jar after a day or so, it is perfectly fine to top off the vinegar. You want to make sure everything stays completely covered by the vinegar.

Allow this to steep in a dark cupboard or closet for about 4 weeks and make sure to shake it at least once a day.

Once ready, strain off the liquid into a clean container. Take 1 to 3 tablespoons per day to support your immunity. It is really that simple!
